New Seasons October 17, 2010

Sage’s first fall has officially arrived in Asheville. The leaves are turning, the breeze is blowing and we already roasted our first batch of chestnuts harvested from our own front yard. Last weekend we went camping in Pisgah Forrest and enjoyed the beauty of the season before the leaves fall away and the frost begins. For Ryan and I, being in nature has always been helpful in clearing our heads and allowing us to dream about our future. We’ve been considering moving back to California for a few months now, but this past weekend gave us the space we needed to make that decision final. We have loved our three and a half years in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, but we are being pulled in another direction now and we are at peace with our decision. We’ll shed plenty of tears as we leave our Asheville “family” behind, but we look forward to being near grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in California. We know that Sage will benefit from the love and support that will surround her there.

Here are a few photos from our recent camping adventures…

Grandpa Ron’s Visit June 23, 2010

Ryan’s dad, Ron, came to Asheville and met Sage for the first time last weekend. We had a great time while he was here. Here’s some photos and videos from his trip.

On Friday, we went to Lake Powahatan and relaxed by the lake while we took turns mountain biking at Bent Creek. And Sage went in the water for the first time!

On Saturday, we walked around the Montford cemetery and then headed over to the river for a dip.

On Sunday, we went on a 5 mile canoe ride down the French Broad river. Sage slept through the entire four hour trip.

We made a pit-stop at the Biltmore barn house along the way and saw a turtle and a snake.

Afterwards we had a relaxing dinner at Papa’s and Beer.

On Monday, we drove out to Gorges State Park and played in the waterfalls along the trail to Rainbow Falls.

And here’s a bonus video of Sage tripping out on the mobile I made her :)

Camping in the Smokies June 1, 2010

We took Sage on her first camping trip this past weekend. We had a great time! I think Sage was a little disappointed to wake up in our boring apartment this morning after spending the last few days in the beautiful smoky mountains. She loved looking at all the plants and trees and gazing at our camp fire. Here’s a few pics from our trip.

Grandma Nono’s Visit May 25, 2010

Ryan’s mom, Nannette, came to visit us this past week and meet Sage for the first time. We went hiking, explored downtown, ate delicious food at local restaurants, visited family in Raleigh, went on an edible weed walk and she got to witness Sage’s first real smiles. We had a great time and it was sad to see her go. Here’s a few photos from her visit.
